The Climate Physics group at ENS de Lyon is led by researchers from the Physics Lab and Geology Lab. We tackle outstanding questions in climate sciences related to abrupt changes of the oceanic and atmospheric circulations, turbulence, the carbon cycle, and sea-level rise. Polar Oceans & Ice
Our research on polar oceans and Antarctic ice melting, which is led by Louis Couston, is funded by the ERC from 2024 to 2029. The project, entitled "IceAblation: Novel subglacial ocean models to accurately predict Ice-shelf Ablation rates at high resolution and low computational cost", builds on recent progress in turbulence modelling, machine learning and laboratory experiments to decipher ice-ocean interactions, the fate of ice shelves, and sea-level rise.
